Private Investigator or Private Detective?

In the event the applicant is a corporation, partnership or association, the person filing with respect to the company, must meet all of the qualifications detailed above, and will be a portion of such corporation, or member of the association or partnership.

The commissioner may, in his discretion, substitute as much as one year of experience for a private detective permit candidate upon evidence satisfactory participation in a plan of education related to the licence. Employment being a security officer, will not qualify as time earned to obtain a private detective permit.

When a private detective or private detective agency license has been granted to an applicant on the basis of the candidate’s experience being an investigator using an organized civil fire department, such license will confine the licensee to performing merely the type of investigations completed for that municipal fire department. It does not give an overall analysis permit.

No permit may be given to an applicant now vested with police powers. The permit of a corporation might be denied by the commissioner, or suspended or revoked, if it seems that 10 percent or more of their stock of the corporation is held by someone who can’t fulfill the personality standards required of their permit applicant.
